I donno what made me do it but somehow there is always this little voice at the back of my head telling me: Save money. Reuse, reduce, recycle.. hahaha. Singapore's education influence is so strong. It will stuck in your head after you pick up rubbish every year for 3 whole days at the Changi beach and help pack up newpapers for recyce at numerous places. ok... as I start to recall.... wow...I did a lot of work last time. Do Malaysia schools ask kids to clean up the country? People support the 3Rs. As natural disaster struck Taiwan and other countries... it is heart breaking to watch those people's families, life saving all gone in the wind, thunder and great water. I felt I should at least do something. Our family made donations to them.
But this incident just awaken how lucky we all are to be staying in a safe country. We should start small, start from ourselves. Do a little bit everyday and help the Earth live a bit longer. I know we can never save it at the rate we are destroying it. Someday whatever we see on the movie may come true. Anyway, why did we go in to this big talk ?
Come back to the DIY shoe rack. As shown below, I have an old cloth closet that is wore out and got a huge hole in the front. It is really an eye-sore to be stuck in the corner of the living room. So instead of the unsual: Take it apart throw it away. I decided to think up of something for it. How to make something out of it?
At that point of time, my brother walk by and start wearing his shoes. Then I noticed the shoes scattered all over the floor. Despite having a huge shoe cupboard our shoes are over flowing out and on to the floor. So a light bulb light up in my head and I proceed to take apart the cloth closet and get to work. Remove the tore old cloth cover, throw. Take apart the metal bars. Grab a pair of scissors and some cupboards ( left over from some packagings) . Put them all together and ...............Dada~~ This is what we have below. A new shoe rack for us. I was thinking of buying a new shoes rack and now I have one. Saved some money and avoid wasting the materials from old cloth closet. ^^~~~ happy.
How to do it:
1. Take the closet apart. Take out all the metal bars and throw away the cloth cover. ( mine is old and tore.)
2. I used the top half of the metal bar structure to form the backbone of my shoe rack.
3. The middle layer I added some white hard cupboard paper to hold the shoes.
4. The top layer is the cloth divider originally attached in the cloth closet.
Anyway, it looks good and tidy. If u don't look carefully you will never notice something weird with the shoe rack.
